It was my youngest son Jeff's 16th birthday. He invited ten of his friends over for a birthday party on Saturday. Plus Grandparents on both sides, his eighteen year old brother James, and twenty year old sister. His Aunt, Uncle and two cousins. It was a very full house.
Tim was sixteen and one of my son's Jeff's best friends from the swim team at school. He was openly gay (but no one told or warned us) and had been out for a while. Most of the boys were on the swim team and there were on three girls there from school. All running around in very revealing swimsuits making most of the adults feel very uncomfortable. Tim exits out the patio doors to the pool with Jeff and a few friends.
There in front of all of us we watch him meet James my eighteen year old son and fall instantly in love. It probably did not help he was wearing very revealing swim trunks too. Poor Tim could not decide to make eye contact or check out his junk.
I think we were are floored by the public display of gay attraction and then my sons response.

Tim - I'm openly gay, and sixteen any chance you do any gay stuff with guys.
James - Not yet, but I'm eighteen starting college next year and open to anything.
Tim takes James by the hand and says... We should get to know each other better, lets go hang out by the pool.
I yell - James what the hell.... As the two of them walk off together hand in hand.
His mother just smiles saying - He just messing with you for making him come to a party of full of sixteen year old kids.
The two of them sit next to each other with their legs in the water and seem to be talking. I get distracted and look ten minutes later they have both disappeared.
Without assuming too much I franticly look around the backyard. I check the downstairs bathroom, the front yard. I go check James bedroom thank God it was empty. I go tell his mother they both disappeared.
She asks... did you try calling his cell phone?
I call - James
James - Hey dad.
Me - Where are you?
James - Tim and I walked down to his house just one street over on the next block. We will be right back he wants me to meet his parents.
Me - Why do you want to meet his parents?
James - He is a sixteen year old gay kid that is offering to have sex with me. I think his parent should know about that don't you?
Me - Okay... sure I guess. Hey invite them over and you boys come right back please.
I was confused but thinking a conversation with his parents might actual bring some kind of help into their gay son. Then strangely enough fifteen minutes later Tim, both of his parents and my son show back up.
James was kind to introduce us. They were very impressed with my son. Then informed me they gave him permission to fool around with their son if he wanted to. I told them my son was not gay, and had never done gay stuff before. They asked are you sure? They seemed to think James was interested.
Then my wife says.. - I guess it is possible, he never said he was straight or showed that much interest in girls. They do look cute standing next to each other.
His older sister - So he is going to be a gay freshman in college with a seventeen year old gay boyfriend in high school. He be labeled a pervert.
Then my wife says. Your father and I were high school sweet hearts. He was three grade ahead of me, he join the Navy and we waited until I graduated to get married.
I watch as they both get in the pool. Tim is climbing and hanging all over him. Tim wraps his legs around James waist and his arms around his neck. James has one hand on each butt cheek holding him in place. Both boys beaming I was starting to think maybe James is gay.
I walk to the side of the pool and they see me headed their direction. He puts Tim down and they swim to the side of the pool where I'm at.
What's up dad? James ask.
Can we have a talk five minutes alone.
Can I need a few minutes before I exit the pool. He winks.
There right in front of me were two gay boys in love.
